About the position

PeaceHealth is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician for a Part Time, 0.30 FTE, Day position. This role is crucial in ensuring that all surgical instruments and equipment are properly cleaned, decontaminated, and sterilized to maintain the highest standards of patient safety and care. The Sterile Processing Technician will be responsible for operating autoclaves and other sterilization equipment, as well as inspecting and assembling instruments, trays, and packs for surgical cases. This position requires attention to detail and adherence to strict protocols to ensure that all instruments are ready for use in a timely manner. The technician will coordinate the assembly and distribution of supplies, equipment, and instruments for surgical cases, which includes re-stocking inventory and maintaining cleanliness in the department. The role also involves cleaning, decontaminating, disassembling, and sterilizing instruments and supplies, as well as performing routine maintenance on sterilization equipment. The technician will be expected to perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the sterile processing department. Working conditions for this position include the ability to move around the area with occasional sitting, and the use of fine motor skills to grasp and control medical equipment. The technician will frequently lift/carry up to 25 lbs and push/pull with up to 10 lbs of force. Exposure to biohazards, body fluids, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals is a part of the job, necessitating strict adherence to safety protocols. Vision and hearing must be within normal limits, and the ability to communicate and exchange accurate information is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Operate autoclaves and other sterilization equipment to clean, decontaminate, and sterilize instruments and equipment.
  • Inspect and assemble instruments, trays, and packs for surgical cases.
  • Coordinate the assembly and distribution of supplies, equipment, and instruments for surgical cases.
  • Re-stock inventory as needed.
  • Clean, decontaminate, disassemble, and sterilize instruments and supplies.
  • Clean and maintain department equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Preferred: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred: Completion of a National Central Service Technician course and/or six months experience as a Sterile Process Technician.
  • Required within 1 Year: National Sterile Processing/Distribution Certification from IAHCSMM, CBSPD, or other nationally recognized certifying body.
  • Basic computer skills including MS Office applications.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in verbal and written communications in English.
