About the position

The Inventory Control Manager at Tom Thumb in Waxahachie, TX, plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient management of inventory and receiving operations within the store. This position is responsible for overseeing the receipt of deliveries from various vendors, verifying the accuracy of invoices, and ensuring that all products are accounted for and stored properly. The Inventory Control Manager must maintain a good rapport with vendors while adhering to company policies and procedures regarding inventory management. This role requires a strong focus on customer service, as the manager must foster an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness and provide fast and friendly service to all customers. In addition to managing the receiving process, the Inventory Control Manager is tasked with maintaining accurate records of deliveries and inventory levels. This includes logging all Direct Store Delivery (DSD) deliveries into the computer system, breaking down loads from suppliers, and transporting products to the appropriate storage areas. The manager is also responsible for implementing cost control measures, conducting quality checks, and preventing shrinkage, damage, and spoilage of products. This involves auditing product cases, verifying orders against invoices, and ensuring that all products are properly coded and dated. The Inventory Control Manager will also be responsible for training and supervising employees, ensuring that they are knowledgeable about store policies, sales procedures, and record-keeping practices. This includes identifying employees with potential for advancement and providing them with the necessary training and support. The manager must also ensure compliance with workplace safety regulations and maintain a clean and organized work environment. Overall, this position requires a combination of strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to providing excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Receives all DSD deliveries made to the store and logs them into the computer system.
  • Breaks down loads from DSD suppliers and transports products to the freezer or cooler area.
  • Ensures cost control, quality control, and inventory control by verifying orders against invoices.
  • Maintains invoices and reports in the established filing system according to the record retention schedule.
  • Prevents shrink, damage, and spoilage of products by inspecting and managing inventory effectively.
  • Responsible for the security, sanitation, and organization of the receiving, storage, and loading dock areas.
  • Trains employees in store policies, sales, and record-keeping procedures.
  • Operates related equipment such as manual and electric pallet jacks, power lifts, and balers.
  • Inspects backroom equipment and reports any malfunctions to the store director.
  • Implements emergency procedures in the event of equipment and computer software malfunctions.

Requirements

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to maintain a professional demeanor with customers and co-workers.
  • Ability to frequently reach, lift, and maneuver objects weighing up to approximately 60 lbs.
  • Good eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity for handling products and operating equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics and weights and measures for accurate inventory management.
  • Understanding of product variety, perishability, and sanitation standards.
