About the position

The Store 1784-Dept Manager Inventory Control position in Mesquite, TX, is a vital role within the retail environment, primarily responsible for overseeing the inventory control processes and ensuring the efficient receipt and management of store products. This position reports directly to the Store Director and plays a crucial part in maintaining the operational standards of the store. The individual in this role will be tasked with receiving deliveries from various vendors, verifying the accuracy of invoices, and ensuring that any discrepancies are addressed promptly. The position requires a strong focus on customer service, as maintaining a positive rapport with vendors and ensuring a smooth delivery process is essential. In addition to receiving products, the Department Manager will be responsible for operating receiving systems in accordance with company policies and maintaining accurate records of all deliveries. This includes logging all Direct Store Delivery (DSD) deliveries into the computer system and ensuring that all products are accounted for. The role also involves conducting quality control checks, managing inventory levels, and preventing shrinkage through diligent oversight of product handling and storage. The Department Manager will also be responsible for training and supervising staff, ensuring that all employees are well-versed in store policies and procedures, and identifying potential leaders within the team for future advancement opportunities. The position requires a hands-on approach, as the Department Manager will frequently engage in physical tasks such as lifting and maneuvering products, operating equipment like pallet jacks and balers, and maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the receiving and storage areas. The role demands a high level of mental alertness to ensure the safe and accurate completion of tasks, as well as a solid understanding of basic mathematics for inventory management. Overall, this position is integral to the store's operations, ensuring that products are received, stored, and managed effectively to meet customer needs and maintain operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Receives all DSD deliveries made to the store and logs them into the computer system.
• Breaks down loads from DSD suppliers and transports products to the appropriate storage areas.
• Ensures cost control, quality control, and inventory control by verifying orders against invoices.
• Maintains invoices and reports in the established filing system according to the record retention schedule.
• Prevents shrink, damage, and spoilage of products by managing product handling and storage.
• Responsible for the security, sanitation, and organization of the receiving, storage, and loading dock areas.
• Trains employees in store policies, sales, and record-keeping procedures.
• Operates related equipment such as manual and electric pallet jacks, power lifts, and balers.
• Inspects backroom equipment and reports any malfunctions to the store director.
• Implements emergency procedures in the event of equipment and computer software malfunctions.

Requirements

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to maintain a professional demeanor with customers and co-workers.
• Ability to frequently reach, lift, and maneuver objects weighing up to approximately 60 lbs.
• Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination are necessary for product handling.
• Knowledge of basic mathematics and weights and measures for inventory management.
• Understanding of product variety, perishability, and handling standards.
