About the position

The Department Manager for Inventory Control at Store 3637 in Richardson, TX, plays a crucial role in ensuring that the store operates smoothly and efficiently. This position is responsible for exemplifying and ensuring strong customer service in all areas of the job, providing a superior quality product that exceeds customer expectations. The Department Manager will have a working knowledge of department functions and will maintain an adequate amount of inventory to meet customer demands. The role involves assisting with keeping and maintaining inventory, processing administrative paperwork, and maintaining accurate department records. In this position, the Department Manager will maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness, emphasizing fast and friendly customer service. They will assist customers by making product suggestions and engaging in suggestive selling techniques. The Department Manager will also be responsible for total store operations in the absence of the Store Director, monitoring production processes, and ensuring profitability. They will build displays, rotate products, and ensure cleanliness in the work area and department. The Department Manager will monitor employee productivity, evaluate overall performance, and assist with scheduling, supervising, training, and assigning duties to department employees. They will also be responsible for ensuring proper code dating for all products and may initiate personnel actions such as interviews, transfers, promotions, and disciplinary actions. The role requires a strong understanding of company policies and guidelines, as well as the ability to control inventory levels and shrinkage. The Department Manager will also perform receiving duties, maintain accurate records, and ensure compliance with safety and sanitation standards.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with an emphasis on providing fast and friendly Customer Service.
  • Assists customers by making product suggestions and engaging in suggestive selling techniques.
  • Answers and responds to incoming calls appropriately and resolves customer complaints as needed.
  • Responsible for total store operations in the absence of the Store Director.
  • Monitors production process following company procedures and profitability.
  • Builds GM/HBC displays, rotates and discards outdated or spoiled product, ensuring cleanliness of work area and department.
  • Implements effective promotional and seasonal displays.
  • Monitors employee productivity and evaluates overall performance.
  • Assists with scheduling, supervising, training, and assigning duties to department employees.
  • Identifies and trains employees with high potential for advancement opportunities.
  • Responsible for ensuring proper code dating for all products within the department.
  • Assists with physical inventory taken every 6 months.
  • Controls inventory to ensure adequate product quantity, quality, and freshness.
  • Assists with ordering general merchandise product and maintains inventory levels according to Division directives.
  • Supervises the processing of all reclamation and maintains orderly conditions in back room and all Drug Department areas.
  • Controls shrink and cost, implements correct product preparation techniques.
  • Performs receiving duties including breaking down loads, verifying orders, inspecting quality, and stocking products.
  • Completes and monitors daily log sheets, sales, and labor paperwork accurately.
  • Ensures compliance with retail labeling laws, federal and state regulations, and company policies.
  • Implements emergency procedures in the event of equipment and computer software malfunctions.

Requirements

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Good understanding of overall company practices and GM/HBC Department policies and procedures.
  • Ability to frequently reach, lift, and maneuver objects weighing up to approximately 50 lbs.
  • Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination are necessary.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time and perform repetitious arm movements.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics and weights and measures.
  • Knowledge of product variety, standards, perishability, product handling, sanitation, labeling, and department policies.
