About the position

The Receiver/Inventory Control Manager & Inventory Control Clerk is responsible for overseeing the receipt of deliveries from various vendors, ensuring the accuracy of invoices, and maintaining inventory control in accordance with company policies. This role is crucial in managing the flow of products into the store, ensuring that all deliveries are logged accurately and that any discrepancies are addressed promptly. The position requires a strong focus on customer service, as the individual will maintain a positive rapport with vendors and ensure that the receiving area is organized and secure. The Receiver/Inventory Control Manager will also be responsible for training employees, implementing safety procedures, and ensuring compliance with company standards regarding product handling and sanitation. In addition to receiving deliveries, the role involves breaking down loads from Direct Store Delivery (DSD) suppliers, transporting products to appropriate storage areas, and conducting audits to verify the contents of product cases against invoices. The individual will also be tasked with maintaining records and reports in accordance with the company's record retention schedule, as well as managing the security and cleanliness of the receiving and storage areas. The Receiver/Inventory Control Manager will play a key role in preventing shrinkage, damage, and spoilage of products, and will be responsible for the proper handling of damaged goods, including repairs and returns to vendors as necessary. The position requires a proactive approach to training and developing employees, identifying those with potential for advancement, and ensuring that all team members are knowledgeable about company policies and procedures. The Receiver/Inventory Control Manager must also be adept at using various equipment, including manual and electric pallet jacks, power lifts, and other tools necessary for the efficient operation of the receiving department. Overall, this role is vital to the smooth operation of the store's inventory management system and requires a combination of strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and quality control.

Responsibilities

  • Receives all DSD deliveries made to the store and logs them into the computer.
  • Breaks down loads from DSD suppliers and transports products to freezer or cooler areas.
  • Ensures cost control, quality control, and inventory control by verifying orders against invoices.
  • Maintains invoices and reports in the established filing system according to the record retention schedule.
  • Reviews and accepts only proper and correct orders submitted by outside sales representatives.
  • Prevents shrink, damage, and spoilage of products, and manages damaged product appropriately.
  • Responsible for the security, sanitation, and organization of the receiving, storage, and loading dock areas.
  • Trains employees in store policies, sales, and record-keeping procedures.
  • Operates related equipment such as manual and electric pallet jacks, power lifts, balers, and compactors.
  • Inspects backroom equipment and reports any malfunctions to the store director.

Requirements

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to frequently reach, lift, and maneuver objects weighing up to approximately 60 lbs.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics and weights and measures.
  • Familiarity with product variety, perishability, and handling standards.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and perform repetitious arm movements.
