About the position

The Materials and Fleet Services Specialist at Eastern Airlines is a full-time role responsible for the routine purchasing of materials and the repair of rotatable components. This position involves reviewing purchase requisitions, soliciting quotations, and placing orders for procurement of goods and services. The specialist will analyze purchasing opportunities to maximize inventory efficiencies and ensure accurate inventory records while collaborating with various departments within the company.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with MCI vendors for aircraft fueling, cleaning, ramp services, and deicing services.
  • Perform ramp service duties involving aircraft handling.
  • Operate aircraft GSE equipment.
  • Receive catering orders and place them on aircraft as directed by the Airport OPS department.
  • Facilitate crew meal deliveries from local caterers.
  • Assist with aircraft receipt and dispatch duties as needed.
  • Review purchase requisitions for completeness and initiate action on requirements.
  • Return requisitions to users that require additional information or budget approval.
  • Identify requisitions that can be placed directly on existing contract agreements.
  • Monitor requisitions to identify candidates for volume agreements and make recommendations.
  • Prepare and obtain quotations from qualified suppliers.
  • Review bids, negotiate prices and terms, and select suppliers.
  • Minimize purchase order discrepancies through coordination with accounting and receiving departments.
  • Reduce process cycle times through prompt action on requisitions and purchase order follow-up.
  • Plan, acquire, and administer materials required to support aircraft maintenance.
  • Manage AOG critical material support functions.
  • Supervise all Loans and Borrows, including invoicing accuracy and timely returns.
  • Ensure purchased and repaired items are airworthy and have required certification documentation.
  • Institute systems and procedures for purchasing control and rotable repair administration.
  • Direct disposition of unserviceable inventory for repair or production hold.
  • Evaluate suppliers through objective performance measurements.
  • Direct, monitor, and report on procurement projects.
  • Ensure items are prepared for shipping to protect against damage.
  • Coordinate the addition of new vendors with the Manager, Quality Assurance/Quality Control.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management or related discipline preferred.
  • Minimum 2-3 years in aviation purchasing/supply chain required.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of Procurement/Procurement Planning/Material Control experience within the airline industry required.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to develop supplier relationships.
  • Ability to accept and maintain company and professional ethical policies and standards.
  • Basic understanding of negotiation principles.
  • Excellent management and communication skills.
  • Professionalism and positive customer service attitude.
  • Familiarity with accessing online aircraft manuals.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite and the Internet.
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure in a dynamic environment.
  • Familiarity with AMOS or similar maintenance systems preferred.
