About the position

The Store Manager Candidate position at Dollar General is designed to support the Store Manager in executing store processes effectively. This role focuses on employee supervision, inventory management, and customer service, while also preparing the candidate for future advancement to the Store Manager role. It is a temporary position aimed at developing external candidates for management responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Assist in recruiting and staffing activities.
• Facilitate store merchandising by staging, stocking, and storing merchandise according to established practices.
• Manage inventory processes including damages, markdowns, and register scanning.
• Follow ordering practices to meet in-stock targets.
• Provide superior customer service leadership and act as a role model for company policies.
• Participate in store opening and closing activities.
• Ensure safe deposit of company funds and maintain financial integrity of the store.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment for customers and employees.
• Operate the store in the absence of the Store Manager.
• Review operating statements to identify business trends and control expenses.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
• One year of experience in a retail environment preferred for external candidates.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedures manuals.
• Mathematical skills for calculations such as addition, subtraction, and percentages.
• Knowledge of cash handling procedures and inventory management practices.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with attention to detail.
