About the position

The Store Manager Candidate position at Dollar General is designed to support the Store Manager in executing store processes effectively. This role focuses on employee supervision, inventory management, and customer service, while also preparing the candidate for future advancement to the Store Manager role. It is a temporary position aimed at developing external candidates for management responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Assist in recruiting and staffing activities.
• Facilitate store merchandising by staging, stocking, and storing merchandise according to established practices.
• Assist in all aspects of inventory management, including damages, markdowns, and conducting inventories.
• Follow prescribed ordering practices to meet or exceed in-stock targets.
• Provide superior customer service leadership and act as a role model for company policies.
• Participate in store opening and closing activities.
• Ensure safe deposit of company funds in the designated bank.
• Maintain financial integrity through cashier accountability and adherence to security practices.
• Maintain a clean and safe store environment for customers and employees.
• Operate the store in the absence of the Store Manager.
• Review operating statements to identify business trends and expense control opportunities.
• Complete all paperwork and documentation according to guidelines.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
• One year of experience in a retail environment preferred for external candidates.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedures manuals.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations including percentages.
• Knowledge of cash handling procedures and cashier accountability.
• Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Effective interpersonal and organization skills with attention to detail.
