About the position

The Store Manager Candidate at Dollar General is responsible for supporting the Store Manager in various store processes, including employee supervision, inventory management, and customer service. This role is designed to develop external candidates for the Store Manager position and is intended to be held for a limited period. The candidate will assist in recruiting, merchandising, and maintaining store operations, ensuring a safe and well-stocked environment for customers and employees.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in recruiting and staffing activities.
  • Facilitate and participate in merchandising, staging, stocking, and storage of merchandise.
  • Manage inventory processes including damages, markdowns, and conducting inventories.
  • Follow ordering practices to meet in-stock targets.
  • Provide superior customer service leadership.
  • Act as a role model by adhering to company policies and procedures.
  • Participate in store opening and closing activities.
  • Ensure safe deposit of company funds in the designated bank.
  • Maintain financial integrity through cashier accountability and cash control procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining clean and well-stocked stores.
  • Operate the store in the absence of the Store Manager.
  • Review operating statements to identify business trends and expense control opportunities.
  • Complete all paperwork and documentation according to guidelines.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
  • One year of experience in a retail environment preferred for external candidates.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedures manuals.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations including percentages.
  • Knowledge of cash handling procedures and cashier accountability.
  • Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective interpersonal and organization skills with attention to detail.
