About the position

The Manager Trainee position at Tractor Supply Company is designed for individuals aspiring to become Store Managers. This role focuses on learning the essential duties and skills required for effective store management, including delivering exceptional customer service, team building, sales management, and inventory control. The Manager Trainee will engage in various training activities to prepare for a leadership role within the company, ensuring a positive shopping experience for customers and a supportive work environment for team members.

Responsibilities

  • Observing and learning the duties and skills required for a Store Manager role.
  • Recruiting, hiring, developing, evaluating, disciplining, and retaining efficient team members.
  • Delivering Legendary Customer Service through GURA: Greet the Customer, Uncover Customer's Needs & Wants, Recommend Product Solutions, Ask to Add Value & Appreciate the Customer.
  • Creating and fostering a welcoming environment and sense of belonging in the Store.
  • Ensuring diversity, equity, and inclusion is experienced across Team Members, Customers, Suppliers, and Communities.
  • Scheduling, organizing, and planning daily activities for team members to ensure efficient store operations.
  • Leading team members to ensure a Legendary shopping experience that differentiates from the competition.
  • Communicating company processes, policies, and directives to team members.
  • Evaluating processes for effectiveness and coordinating with District Manager to eliminate problems.
  • Creating a desirable work environment through promotions, recognition, and empowerment.
  • Problem solving and conflict resolution for both team members and customers.
  • Learning sales and profit management, accountable for achieving top and bottom line.
  • Promoting a safe and productive work environment.
  • Managing daily merchandise flow to ensure adequate in-stock and inventory controls.
  • Learning the process of organizing merchandise resets to company specifications.
  • Implementing and sustaining merchandise presentation per company standards.
  • Evaluating competitive environment and working with Operations and Merchandising teams.
  • Training on daily, weekly, and monthly processing of required paperwork.
  • Training on managing periodic price changes and communicating inventory needs to buyers.
  • Learning to coordinate and conduct special sales events and assist District Manager with operational needs.
  • Setting the tone for and reinforcing the mission and values of Tractor Supply Company.
  • Learning to address team member issues and concerns, working with HR when necessary.
  • Training to be responsible for budgeting and sales forecasting.

Requirements

  • Retail experience and/or knowledge in farming, ranching, pet/equine, or welding is strongly preferred.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver's license.
  • High school diploma required; Bachelor's degree in Agricultural-Science or Business related field preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Valid driver's license for company business.
  • Ability to process information and merchandise through the system and POS Register system.
  • Ability to read, write, and count accurately for documentation.
  • Ability to access all areas of the store including selling floor, side lot, stock area, and register area.
  • Ability to operate necessary store equipment such as dolly, hand-truck, forklift, computer, and cash register.
  • Ability to move and transfer merchandise weighing 0-50 lbs.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, days, nights, and weekends as business dictates.
