About the position

The Store Manager position at Circle K is a pivotal role that involves overseeing the daily operations of the store while ensuring exceptional customer service and maintaining company standards. The Store Manager is responsible for recruiting, hiring, and training a team of enthusiastic employees, fostering a positive work environment that promotes excellent customer service. This role requires a strong focus on leadership and management, as the Store Manager will develop, manage, and assign tasks to ensure the store is clean, well-stocked, and organized according to company standards. The Store Manager will also be responsible for scheduling employees to maximize customer service and maintain the store's image, while implementing non-discriminatory management practices during hiring, training, and employee relations. In addition to leadership responsibilities, the Store Manager will develop positive relationships with suppliers and ensure customer complaints are resolved in a timely and professional manner. Training and development are key components of this role, as the Store Manager will conduct ongoing performance appraisals and ensure all employees are trained on customer service, safety procedures, and company standards. Effective communication is essential, and the Store Manager will establish regular communication meetings with employees and the Market Manager to ensure everyone is informed and aligned with store objectives. The Store Manager will also be responsible for organizing and planning site operations, including evaluating and developing action plans to meet site needs, managing store reports, and ensuring merchandise is attractively displayed and priced correctly. Financial responsibilities include analyzing daily sales and expenses, budgeting, forecasting P&L lines, and safeguarding all money received and disbursed. The Store Manager will work primarily indoors but will also be required to perform outdoor tasks such as cleaning parking lots and gas pumps, and may be exposed to varying temperatures and noise levels. This role requires a proactive approach to management, with the ability to work with minimal direction and supervision, while effectively leading the store team.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, hire and train positive, enthusiastic employees, ensuring excellent customer service.
  • Develop, manage and assign tasks appropriately to ensure the site is clean, adequately stocked, organized and well-kept based on Company standards.
  • Maintain a professional and supportive image among subordinates and supervisor.
  • Schedule employees within Company guidelines to maximize customer service and maintain site image.
  • Implement non-discriminatory related management skills while hiring, training, counseling, motivating and separating employees.
  • Develop positive and professional relationships with all suppliers.
  • Promote excellent service and resolve customer complaints in a timely, professional manner.
  • Promote and ensure a safe, positive public image within the neighboring community.
  • Prepare ongoing and timely performance appraisals in writing for all employees, providing proper performance-based feedback.
  • Train all employees ensuring that customer service, site image and marketing execution meet Company standards.
  • Train all employees on safety procedures and promote safety awareness.
  • Develop ways and means to ensure that all employees receive proper communication in a timely manner.
  • Establish periodic ongoing communication meetings with all site employees and the Market Manager.
  • Evaluate and develop specific action plans to address the needs of the site in order to reach the desired objectives.
  • Organize and maintain all site files and manuals.
  • Manage and supervise store employees to ensure that all required and requested reports due are completed accurately and timely.
  • Manage and supervise store employees to ensure that all merchandise is stocked, attractively displayed and priced correctly.
  • Ensure that all required employment-related posters and signs are in a place that is easily accessible to all employees.
  • Analyze daily sales and expense information and take appropriate action to maximize sales and net profits.
  • Budget and forecast P&L lines, as well as understand and manage merchandise margins.
  • Safeguard and account for all money received and disbursed.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Experience in retail sales preferred.
  • Ability to supervise and train for the use of equipment, tools and materials listed in the Customer Service Representative (CSR) and Assistant Site Manager (ASM) job description.
  • Ability to supervise and manage the functions listed in the CSR and ASM job description.
  • Ability to use a computer, or acquire those skills necessary to use a computer at the site, which includes analysis of reports, inventory control, cash control, counseling notices, etc.
  • A valid driver's license and adequate transportation to/from bank and corporate management meetings.
  • Ability to communicate (orally and in writing) in English.
