About the position

The Sales Manager position at Academy Sports + Outdoors is responsible for the overall management and execution of operational excellence for the store. This role focuses on supervising and managing team members in both Hardlines and Softlines Sales, which includes various departments such as Camping, Fishing & Hunting, Outdoor, Firearms, Apparel, Footwear, and Team Sports. The Sales Manager leads the team to drive customer satisfaction, store profitability, and aligns with Academy's Purpose of making sports and outdoor activities accessible to everyone.

Responsibilities

  • Overall management responsibility for the execution and operational excellence of the entire store.
  • Management responsibility for Hardlines and Softlines Sales, including personnel decisions such as hiring, training, and development.
  • Provides departmental direction and daily supervisory oversight to Team Leads and team members.
  • Develops and implements strategies for achieving operational goals and completing assigned tasks.
  • Manages workforce productivity, efficiency, and process improvement projects.
  • Ensures compliance with established sales, safety, and security practices and procedures.
  • Supervises the execution of various assignments as delegated by the Store Director.
  • Participates in floor walks with upper management and creates implementation plans based on feedback.
  • Audits firearm sales in compliance with federal and state law and completes necessary training.
  • Provides oversight to the team member talent lifecycle, including hiring and onboarding.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
  • At least three years of relevant work experience required.
  • Demonstrated success in leading departments of up to 40 people.
  • Exceptional supervisory and management skills.
  • Excellent customer service orientation and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong business acumen and understanding of market competition.
  • Proficient in inventory software, order processing systems, and Microsoft Office products.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in retail management or sales leadership roles.
  • Knowledge of firearms sales and compliance regulations.
