About the position

The Storekeeper 2 position at the Noble Correctional Institution involves overseeing the management of stock, supplies, and equipment within a correctional facility. The role includes leading a team of incarcerated individuals, ensuring compliance with safety and security protocols, and maintaining accurate inventory records. The Storekeeper is responsible for receiving, inspecting, storing, and distributing various items while enforcing warehouse procedures and maintaining a clean work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of incarcerated individuals in receiving, inspecting, storing, and distributing stock, supplies, and equipment.
  • Enforce storeroom or warehouse procedures.
  • Inventory and order supplies as needed.
  • Complete and maintain shipping, receiving, and inventory records.
  • Receive clothing and shoes for incarcerated individuals and staff.
  • Issue and exchange clothing items and equipment for incarcerated individuals and staff.
  • Store and rotate stock appropriately.
  • Update and maintain logs and records, including perpetual inventory.
  • Label and price stock items as necessary.
  • Follow all applicable safety rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Operate all related equipment assigned to the area.
  • Open incoming mail and inspect contents physically.
  • Operate x-ray equipment to scan incoming parcels for contraband.
  • Follow security procedures for confiscation of contraband and notify appropriate staff.
  • Operate postage machines for processing mail.
  • Prepare and submit reports as required and ensure audit control of records.
  • Distribute cleaning supplies, paper products, and food items.
  • Receive clothing and shoes from released incarcerated individuals and staff separating from the institution.
  • Load and unload trucks and distribute contents to various offices.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
  • Serve on institution committees.

Requirements

  • Formal education in arithmetic including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and percentages.
  • 6 months of training or experience in inventory control.
  • 3 months of training or experience in OSHA or other safety standards applicable to storeroom or warehouse operations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a correctional facility environment.
  • Knowledge of security procedures in a correctional setting.
