About the position

The Stormwater Design Engineer will lead the design and analysis of drainage systems for land development projects, focusing on sustainable solutions. This role involves technical leadership, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring high-quality project deliverables through collaboration and expertise in hydrology and hydraulics.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed drainage analyses for land development projects.
  • Perform runoff and routing calculations, design storm sewer systems and inlets, and grade detention ponds.
  • Create comprehensive drainage reports for projects.
  • Collaborate with the Team Design Lead to manage drainage-related tasks and provide guidance to junior team members.
  • Apply hydrologic and hydraulic principles to design stormwater systems.
  • Prepare drainage studies, reports, and detailed maps for construction drawings.
  • Review project designs to ensure compliance with local jurisdictional criteria.
  • Foster open communication with team members to ensure successful project delivery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, detention design, and stormwater management.
  • Hands-on experience with land development projects, including preparation of Storm Water Management Plans (SWMP).
  • Proficiency in H&H software such as HY-8, FlowMaster, StormCAD/SewerGems, and XPStorm.
  • Strong technical writing skills for preparing detailed reports and documentation.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for effective communication and collaboration.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with municipalities and jurisdictions along the Front Range of Colorado.
  • Familiarity with FEMA Letters of Map Change and floodplain fill mitigation plans.
  • Experience with advanced dynamic modeling techniques using SWMM, unsteady flow, and 2D HEC-RAS.
  • Proficiency in HEC-RAS, GeoHECRAS, and ArcGIS software.
