About the position

The Stormwater Technician II position is a semi-skilled role focused on the maintenance, repair, and construction of drainage structures and systems within the City of Plantation. The technician will work under the direct supervision of the Roads and Drainage Foreman, performing heavy physical labor in various weather conditions and utilizing a range of tools and equipment. This role is essential for ensuring the proper functioning of the city's stormwater management systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance and repair tasks on the City's drainage system and dispose of collected materials properly.
• Assist in drainage repairs and install drain pipes where necessary.
• Operate heavy and light motor vehicles to transport personnel and supplies to work sites.
• Operate heavy equipment at the work site, including a sweeping machine to keep roadways clear.
• Collect and input data into the record-keeping system.
• Move heavy materials and perform manual labor for extended periods under hot and humid conditions.
• Perform related division work as required for this position.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Two years of experience in drainage and roadway repairs and the operation of heavy equipment, or equivalent experience and training.
• Valid State of Florida Operators License with temporary CDL class 'B' permit, with the requirement to attain a Florida CDL Class 'B' Operators License with tanker endorsement within 90 days of hire.
• Stormwater Operator Level 1 and 2 Certification must be obtained within the probationary period.

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge of practices and materials utilized in the installation and maintenance of water, stormwater, and wastewater utility systems.
• Ability to read and interpret utility maps.
• Ability to locate leaks, stoppages, and malfunctions in stormwater lines.
