About the position

The STR MGMT/CUSTOMER SVC DEPT LEADER at Fred Meyer is responsible for creating an outstanding customer experience by supervising all functions and activities of the front-end operations. This role emphasizes exceptional service, safety, and cleanliness, while promoting the company's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety. The leader will guide associates in delivering excellent customer service and ensure compliance with operational standards.

Responsibilities

  • Create an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service.
  • Direct and supervise all functions, duties, and activities of the front-end.
  • Establish and maintain a safe and clean environment for customers.
  • Embrace the Customer 1st strategy and encourage associates to deliver excellent customer service.
  • Demonstrate the company's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.
  • Communicate company, department, and job-specific information to associates.
  • Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important, and appreciated.
  • Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads.
  • Understand inventory/stocking and Computer Assisted Ordering.
  • Observe scheduled shift operating hours.
  • Lead front end team by supporting service expectations such as QueVision and self-checkout goals.
  • Ensure that customers' needs are addressed quickly and professionally.
  • Conduct daily huddles with front end associates to discuss service standards and results.
  • Perform cash loans and pick-ups from all store registers as needed using the VeriBalance system.
  • Manage breaks and lunches for all front end associates.
  • Observe, coach, and praise all front end associates on daily expectations.
  • Follow procedures to limit shrink and ensure proper checking techniques.
  • Reinforce safety programs and identify unsafe conditions.
  • Practice preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying management of repairs needed.
  • Notify management of customer or employee accidents and report safety risks or illegal activity.
  • Oversee and manage the efficient operations of all functions and activities of the front-end.

Requirements

  • Having successfully completed checker, U-scan, service booth, and bagger training.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Knowledge of basic math: counting, addition, and subtraction.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Must be able to meet the minimum physical demands of the position.
  • Must be 21 or older.
  • Current alcohol sellers permit once employed.

Nice-to-haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Cashier, retail, or management experience.
  • Second language: speaking, reading, and/or writing.
