About the position

As a Senior Consulting DevOps Engineer at Stratascale, you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and delivering high-quality solutions tailored to meet the unique requirements of our clients within the Fortune 1000. This position requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and other engineers, to ensure the successful execution of agile projects. You will report directly to the Manager of Digital Professional Services within the Stratascale department. This role is fully remote, allowing for a home office setup as determined by Stratascale management. Stratascale is a digital and cybersecurity services company dedicated to helping Fortune 1000 companies transform their technology usage to advance their business objectives, generate revenue, and respond swiftly to market demands. We refer to this approach as Digital Agility. As a Senior Consulting DevOps Engineer, you will be at the forefront of this transformation, leveraging your expertise to architect and implement scalable and robust solutions using cloud-native services. Your responsibilities will include implementing DevOps/DevSecOps platforms, ensuring security best practices in CI/CD supply chains, and integrating third-party tools with DevOps CI/CD pipelines. You will also be responsible for planning and executing large-scale multi-workload application migrations to public cloud environments, collaborating directly with client stakeholders to understand their technical needs, and translating these into user stories and detailed requirements. Your role will involve providing technical leadership to junior engineers, identifying opportunities for process improvements, and developing reusable blueprints and templates to streamline client projects. Staying up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies will be essential to drive innovation within the team.

Responsibilities

• Architecting and implementing scalable and robust solutions using cloud-native services.
• Implementing DevOps/DevSecOps platforms.
• Extensive experience at the enterprise level with Terraform, including authoring bespoke modules, leveraging variables, and management of state.
• Extensive experience at the enterprise level with GitLab, including implementing best practices for branching mechanisms, pull/merge request flows, code reviews, and quality gates.
• Applying security best practices with CI/CD supply chain, with in-depth knowledge of Continuous Integration, Continuous Deployment & Delivery, and Release features.
• Integrating third-party tools such as OKTA with DevOps CI/CD pipelines.
• Managing scalable runner environments for CI/CD.
• Applying SRE practices and integrating DevOps with observability tools.
• Planning and executing large-scale multi-workload application migrations to Public Cloud following multiple migration patterns (e.g., Rehost, Re-platform, Refactor).
• Collaborating directly with client stakeholders at multiple levels to understand their technical needs and translating them into user stories and detailed requirements while operating within the bounds of a defined Statement of Work (SOW).
• Utilizing GCP cloud platform to architect and deploy solutions that are scalable, secure, and highly available.
• Providing technical leadership to junior engineers (internal and partner) on best practices, well-architected principles, and cloud service capabilities/limitations with ownership of the overall quality of the delivered solution.
• Identifying opportunities for process improvements and contributing to the continuous enhancement of development practices.
• Developing reusable blueprints, templates, scaffolding, and runbooks to streamline and automate common repeated activities and solutions in client projects.
• Staying up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies to drive innovation within the team.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years minimum experience in cloud, platform engineering, DevOps, and operations with a proven track record building complex applications for clients.
• Strong understanding of cloud services architecture, design patterns, and best practices on the GCP platform.
• Extensive experience authoring Terraform cloud automation code.
• Extensive experience with GitLab and CI/CD processes and integrations.

Nice-to-haves

• Additional experience with other repository systems (GitHub, Azure DevOps, etc.) is a plus.
• Experience with AWS and/or Azure is a plus.
• Familiarity with one or more databases: MySQL, PostgreSQL, MSSQL, DynamoDB, Cosmos DB, Cassandra.
