About the position

The Strategic Academic Program Manager at UC Merced plays a pivotal role in enhancing academic and professional development programs for graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. This position requires a blend of organizational development, strategic planning, and project management skills to innovate and direct programs that support graduate student success and faculty mentorship. The manager will work closely with the Associate Dean for Graduate Education and Postdoctoral Affairs, leading initiatives that align with the university's strategic goals and securing funding opportunities to sustain and grow these programs.

Responsibilities

  • Independently apply skills in organizational development and strategic planning to innovate academic programs.
  • Formulate strategies and administer processes for new academic graduate degrees and opportunities.
  • Identify and secure new extramural funding opportunities and engage in grant writing.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with faculty and administration on developing new graduate degrees and credentials.
  • Assess complex situations and implement solutions aligned with campus strategic goals.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to solve complex organizational issues.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of ongoing initiatives and publish outcomes and assessments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in a related field or equivalent experience/training.
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in project management, organizational development, or related areas.
  • Advanced degree from an accredited university in a related field is preferred and may substitute for one year of experience.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, project planning, and implementation skills.

  • Advanced knowledge of organizational development theories and models.
  • Experience in grant writing and securing funding for academic programs.
  • Strong verbal, written communication, and presentation skills.
