About the position

The Strategic Communications Associate/Manager at Orion Strategies is responsible for managing communication projects and stakeholder relations for clients in various industries, particularly in energy projects and policy. This role involves writing and editing media communications, organizing public information sessions, and conducting outreach to stakeholders. The position requires in-person attendance at the Columbus, OH office and involves regular overnight travel.

Responsibilities

  • Day-to-day management of projects, including development of briefing materials for clients and reporting documents.
  • Executing various efforts within stakeholder relations, community outreach, and coalition building functions.
  • Writing and editing media communications, including news releases, background materials, bios, media pitches, op-eds, outreach letters, etc.
  • Local media relations on behalf of clients.
  • Speaking before community organizations.
  • Organizing public information sessions including invitations, materials, and logistics.
  • Developing communication projects, including production of materials, coordination with other team members, and securing requisite approvals.
  • Coordinating inbound and outbound information requests to and from field communication, traditional media/social media, and other vendors on projects.
  • Conducting regular outreach by phone to stakeholders and community officials on client projects and issues.
  • Monitoring and reporting of media and social media on behalf of clients.

Requirements

  • Experience or education in public relations, communications, or other related fields.
  • Background in energy projects and/or policy development.
  • Strong writing and oral communication abilities.
  • Strong communications skills and comfort utilizing both phone and technology platforms to correspond with clients, co-workers, and project stakeholders.
  • Sound organization and time management skills.
  • Strong knowledge of and ability to use Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
