About the position
The Strategic Communications Officer position is located in the Office of the United Nations Ombudsman and Mediation Services (UNOMS). The role focuses on supporting outreach efforts to promote awareness and understanding of the Ombudsman Office's services within the UN community, facilitating internal communication, and enhancing information-sharing within the office.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate the communications and outreach efforts of UNOMS, developing and planning outreach strategies.
- Produce and oversee the creation of information products such as articles, brochures, and presentations related to UNOMS activities.
- Act as the focal point for updating and maintaining the UNOMS website.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of outreach efforts and make recommendations for improvements.
- Support regional offices in their local promotional activities.
- Facilitate communication and information-sharing among staff using collaboration tools like Microsoft Teams and Sharepoint.
- Conduct surveys and analyze data to present findings to Senior Managers.
- Assist in developing materials for conflict prevention skill-building activities.
Requirements
- An advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) in communications, journalism, international relations, marketing, public administration, or a related field.
- A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in strategic communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field.
- Experience working with information technology tools is required.
- Experience in preparing and delivering internal communications in an international organization is desirable.
- Experience in drafting and producing a variety of information products is desirable.
Nice-to-haves
- Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
