About the position

The Strategic Communications / Public Relations Specialist position is a critical role that supports the Space Systems Command (SSC) at the Los Angeles Air Force Base (LAAFB). This position is designed to assist with Public Affairs Strategic Communication Activities, focusing on future operations and long-term strategic planning efforts. The specialist will manage multiple strategic events and functions, ensuring that communication campaigns are effectively executed across various platforms, including conferences, media relations, social media, and more. The role is pending contract award, targeted for May 2024, and offers a competitive salary range of $115,000 to $175,000, commensurate with experience. In this position, the specialist will be responsible for understanding the organizational business strategy and crafting both short and long-term integrated communication campaigns. This involves leveraging all available communication channels to execute campaigns that resonate with internal and external audiences. The specialist will also ensure synchronization and integration of strategic message planning efforts between HQ USSF, SSC, and other partner organizations, contributing to larger enterprise-wide activities. The role requires the specialist to provide analysis and assessments to ensure high-quality deliverables that meet the intent of the tasked objectives. This includes researching, drafting, and editing articles, speeches, and testimonies related to SSC activities and initiatives. Additionally, the specialist will serve in a producer/director capacity for video products, ensuring they meet industry-level production standards and are fact-checked for accuracy before public release. Coordination with the Government is essential to maintain message consistency across various audiences, ensuring that all deliverables are suitable for public release and approved by the Government.

Responsibilities

  • Understand organizational business strategy, projects, research, and stories to forecast, plan, and craft integrated communication campaigns.
  • Leverage communication channels to execute campaigns across multiple platforms including conferences, media relations, and social media.
  • Offer ideas on effective communications channels based on events.
  • Ensure synchronization and integration of strategic message planning efforts between HQ USSF, SSC, and partner organizations.

Requirements

  • Master's degree required.
  • 10+ years of demonstrated experience in related fields.
  • Recognized industry leader in the field of strategic communications and public relations.
  • Proficient in the production of video products.
  • Proficient with software such as Adobe Suite, Hootsuite, and Microsoft applications.
  • Understanding of how to navigate Macintosh applications.
  • Ability to write in accordance with the Associated Press style of writing.
  • Proficient in creating and arranging graphics to support public affairs products.
