About the position

The Strategic Initiatives Coordinator will support key strategic initiatives at the University of Alaska, including the Arctic Leadership Initiative and the Alaska Native Success Initiative. This role involves collaboration with leadership and external partners to advance these initiatives, ensuring effective program coordination and communication.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and support external and internal meetings
  • Coordinate student cohort selection and retreat planning for the Arctic Leadership Initiative
  • Coordinate requests for proposals and selection process for Arctic president's professors, early career faculty/postdoc awards, and engagement awards
  • Ensure that proposals funded through the initiatives are consistent with external funding requirements
  • Coordinate with UA System Office and universities to maximize value of UA involvement in events including Arctic Encounter Symposium and other forums
  • Develop content for UA and initiative website, media, social media, and publications
  • Prepare presentation materials and progress reports to advance initiatives for UA leadership, funders, and external partners
  • Promote initiative activities, opportunities, and accomplishments to internal and external audiences in collaboration with the UA Public Affairs team, UA Foundation, and universities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of training and experience
  • 3-5 years of experience in administrative or program coordination in an academic or state/federal agency setting
  • Excellent written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to synthesize information from multiple sources to create concise comprehensive reports appropriate for an executive-level audience
  • Leadership and project management skills including facilitating diverse groups of individuals
  • Demonstrated experience participating in and/or collaborating with multi-disciplinary project teams.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in a field relevant to the current strategic priorities
  • 8 years of progressively responsible program management experience.
