The enterprise-wide Data & Analytics (D&A) team is seeking to hire a Strategic Planning & Chief of Staff, Principal. This role reports directly to the VP of Data & Analytics and is expected to work team-wide, IT-wide, and enterprise-wide as a critical part of Blue Shield's data-driven and mission-driven journey of transforming the world of healthcare. The D&A team partners with business stakeholders to apply the power of data, analytics, and data science to deliver new insights and data-driven solutions to accelerate business outcomes. This Principal role is the “glue” that binds the D&A team together with the mission of making the team more effective in a chief-of-staff type capacity. In this role, you will be responsible for people management, team engagement, managing team budgets, tracking project execution, fostering collaboration, managing team communications, and operations. You will also act as support for moving the D&A organization towards a repeatable product & services-oriented model in order to serve our stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for people management: tracking headcount/team demographics, assessing skills, identifying training gaps, implementing programs, tracking/updating career path levels/descriptions, assisting with recruiting processes, and streamlining onboarding processes.
  • Play a critical role in team engagement: shaping team culture, driving team engagement via social events, volunteerism, lunch-n-learns, etc., and managing and driving corporate team engagement and employee pulse scores.
  • Manage team budget: proactively suggesting changes/reallocations of budgets or new spending suggestions to meet desired team outcomes.
  • Manage and track project execution: defining/tracking team performance goals, roadmap planning, improving 'ways of working'/processes with business stakeholders, corporate function partners, and external vendors, and helping program manage complex initiatives as needed.
  • Foster collaboration: creating or leveraging methods and processes to improve team effectiveness and sharing of information.
  • Manage team communications: sharing results from the team within the team, within IT, or across the enterprise about the great work and impact of the D&A team.
  • Manage team operations: creating/managing meeting agendas and tracking action items, all-hands meetings, creating content/presentations as needed, presenting at or facilitating meetings and even standing in for the VP as needed.
  • Act as support for moving the D&A organization towards a repeatable product & services-oriented model in order to serve our stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience with at least 10 years of relevant work experience, ideally interacting with or supporting technically-oriented teams.
  • Working with data & analytics teams/exposure is a strong plus; direct experience serving as a 'chief of staff' or 'COO' preferred.
  • Clear communicator; requires the ability to succinctly assemble and communicate/present status updates or recommendations or other key messages to audiences ranging from middle management to senior executives.
  • Facile with program/project management and can coordinate across multiple groups as needed.
  • Comfortable handling confidential information and acting as a liaison between multiple stakeholders, both internal and external.
  • Strong experience with communication, collaboration, and visualization tools like Slack, Jira, Tableau, MS Teams, Sharepoint, etc.; must be very comfortable with MS Office Suite.
  • Analytically-oriented and easily able to analyze data sets in MS Excel including pivots, filters, slicers, etc.
  • Very detail oriented; must take pride in end products.
  • Extremely organized; able to manage multiple priorities across multiple tracks of work.
  • Excellent influence and engagement skills in building alignment and accountability without formal ownership or authority over resources.
  • Proactive by nature; seeks and sees opportunities for improvement and acts.
  • Derives satisfaction by helping others and improving processes.
