About the position

The Strategic Purchasing Manager plays a crucial role in the organization by supporting, aligning, and coordinating activities between key suppliers, internal Materials Management, and Procurement teams. This position is responsible for managing purchases and system data across all multi-plant operations, which includes handling imports, future order costing, and primary vendor designations. The Manager is tasked with providing tactical guidance to plant-level Buyers to ensure optimal materials availability while adhering to the financial targets set by Materials Planning. In this role, the Strategic Purchasing Manager will oversee a Specialty Buyer who is responsible for purchasing imports, managing the AFE process, and handling capital purchase orders. The Manager will monitor and drive adherence to established materials management strategies and processes, ensuring that all operations align with the company's goals. Additionally, the Manager will serve as the Prograde representative, collaborating with both internal and external partners to identify and address opportunities related to raw materials inventory. This includes prioritizing plant needs, addressing shortages, managing costing, ensuring availability, and handling excess and obsolete inventory (E&O). Training and supporting new plant-level Buyers is another key responsibility, as is developing implementation plans for new processes. The Manager will also assist in conducting yearly physical inventories and related projects as needed, providing support for various projects and reporting to ensure the business operates smoothly. The role is measured against core KPIs, including On-Time Material Delivery, Inventory Targets, Inventory Accuracy, Materials Shortages, and Supplier Management.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Specialty Buyer responsible for purchasing Imports, AFE process, and capital purchase orders
  • Monitor and drive adherence to materials management strategies and processes
  • Serve as Prograde representative with internal and external partners to identify and address opportunities with raw materials inventory including plant prioritization, shortages, costing, availability, and E&O
  • Train and support new plant-level Buyers and develop implementation plans on new processes
  • Assist in yearly physical inventories and related projects on an as needed basis
  • Provide assistance with other projects and reporting upon request to support the business

Requirements

  • BS in Supply Chain, Business Administration, or related field (or work experience equivalent)
  • 5+ years of Manufacturing, Supply Chain, or Inventory Management experience
  • Kanban and MRP experience
  • Proficient computer skills in Word, Excel, PPT, and PBI
  • Excellent time management, communication, teamwork, and complex problem-solving skills
