About the position

The Strategic Risk Manager at Comerica is responsible for providing second line oversight and effective challenge of financial modeling and risk management processes related to Capital Planning and Long-term Strategic Planning. This role involves acting as the central point of contact for strategic risk management events, overseeing the reporting, assessment, escalation, and remediation of issues. The position also includes responsibilities in reputation risk management and ensuring alignment with strategic goals.

Responsibilities

• Lead the effective challenge of Comerica's Capital Planning process, including PPNR modeled assumptions, credit modeling, capital actions, and stress testing scenarios.
• Provide guidance to enhance the Capital Planning process and create efficiencies.
• Maintain oversight logs and challenge notes for the second line of defense (2LOD).
• Oversee challenge escalation, resolution, and governance in policies and practices.
• Participate in Capital Planning and STMCO meetings as 2LOD representation.
• Monitor financial results to ensure consistency with the Long-term Strategic Plan and provide effective challenge when necessary.
• Challenge the Long-term Strategic Planning process, focusing on business model and balance sheet assumptions.
• Evaluate strategic assessments of acquisitions and major investment projects.
• Lead the effective challenge for reputation risk management and participate in related committee meetings.
• Perform 2LOD challenge of financial assessments for investment projects and conduct ad hoc analyses to support effective challenge.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, or a quantitative discipline from an accredited university.
• Preferred: Master's degree in Finance, Business, Financial Engineering, or a related field.
• 7 years of progressive experience in performing 2LOD challenge and/or execution of capital planning processes and strategic risk management.
