About the position

The Strategic Sourcing/Purchasing Manager will play a crucial role in overseeing procurement activities for a leading manufacturer of raw materials used in renewable energy products. This position involves managing the entire procurement process, from supplier selection to price negotiations, while ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will be responsible for implementing cost-saving initiatives and maintaining efficient manufacturing operations through effective inventory management and collaboration with other departments.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, direct, and control procurement activities.
  • Oversee procurement from intent to purchase to supplier selection, price negotiations, and inventory management.
  • Negotiate complex requests for equipment, suppliers, energy, raw materials (including lead), and services.
  • Develop and continuously improve procurement rules and regulations.
  • Review purchase orders and contracts for compliance with company policies.
  • Handle correspondence and negotiations with suppliers.
  • Monitor costs and stay within allocated budgets, identifying and pursuing cost-saving initiatives.
  • Implement improvements to reduce costs while maintaining quality and on-time delivery.
  • Oversee inventory levels to support production schedules without excessive overstock.
  • Evaluate quality, price, reliability, delivery, technical support, and availability of goods and services.
  • Collaborate with other departments to maintain efficient manufacturing operations.
  • Participate in the annual budget process and monthly business reviews.
  • Ensure all purchasing activities comply with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Self-starter with excellent analytical, negotiating, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong project management and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficient in computer and programming skills.
  • BS degree in supply chain management, business, engineering, or related fields; MBA preferred.
  • Professional certification in supply chain management (e.g., CPSM, CPIM, or CIPS).
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in purchasing and supply chain management.
  • Excellent negotiation skills.
  • Experience with ERP programs, budget management, and KPI monitoring.
  • Experience in commodity purchasing (e.g., lead metal) preferred.
  • Proficient in project management software like Microsoft Project.
