About the position

The Strategy Director and Chief of Staff will play a pivotal role in providing direct professional support to the President of Carelon Research while actively leading the comprehensive strategic planning for the Carelon Research team. This leadership position requires engagement across multiple lines of business to ensure the successful execution of key initiatives and projects that align with the team's business commitments. The ultimate goal is to drive high-value analytics and deliver actionable insights for clients and business partners throughout the healthcare landscape, including life sciences, government, and internal stakeholders within Elevance Health. To excel in this role, the Director must possess a deep understanding of all aspects of the business and work closely with executive leadership to define the strategy and success criteria for the future. The Director will be responsible for translating high-level strategy into actionable tactics, prioritizing programs and projects, and establishing timelines to ensure alignment with enterprise strategic plans. This involves close collaboration with line of business leads and matrixed partners to turn strategy into reality. The Director will also build and leverage relationships to provide innovative solutions to complex business challenges, continuously assessing needs to propose opportunities for improvement. Additionally, the Director will oversee the development, implementation, and monitoring of line of business planning and project activities, while also managing an effective internal communication strategy for the President and fostering a positive work culture for all associates. This position will operate in a hybrid work environment from any US corporate Elevance Health location, with the internal title being Business Strategy Plan Director.

Responsibilities

• Understand all aspects of the business and partner with executive leadership to define future strategy and success criteria.
• Collaborate purposefully across the organization, including with other Carelon business units, Elevance Health partners, and external clients.
• Build and leverage relationships to provide innovative solutions to complex business problems.
• Translate strategy into defined tactics, programs/projects priorities, and timelines, ensuring alignment with enterprise strategic plans.
• Act as the personal advisor and sounding board to the President of Carelon Research, triaging work on an ongoing basis.
• Develop and manage an effective internal communication strategy for the President, in alignment with the broader Carelon communication strategy.
• Communicate status, priorities, strategies, and success metrics to various stakeholders, including management, team members, and internal partners.
• Create and organize presentation materials for meetings with all levels of the organization.
• Propose opportunities to improve results based on continuous needs assessment.
• Create and curate a positive work culture for all associates.

Requirements

• BA/BS degree in a related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of related experience, including prior leadership experience.
• 3 to 5 years of strategic planning experience.
• Any combination of education and experience that provides an equivalent background.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in a healthcare evidence-generation business in life science, government agency, or academic research segments.
• Experience with C-level communication design and delivery across large, matrix organizations.
• Experience as a Chief of Staff to the executive leader and VP team.
• Experience with growth strategy, strategic business planning, and management consulting.
