About the position

The Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at Lander University will play a crucial role in the Department of Athletics by assisting the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach in managing and delivering a comprehensive strength conditioning program for all student-athletes. This position is designed to foster a high-performance training environment where every athlete is treated with respect and inclusivity. The Assistant Coach will be responsible for developing training regimens that enhance athletic performance, ensuring that all programs align with the latest research and best practices in strength and conditioning. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including athletic trainers and coaching staff, to monitor and adjust training programs based on the individual needs of student-athletes. In addition to program management, the Assistant Coach will provide education and counseling to student-athletes on self-care topics, including sleep hygiene, recovery modalities, and nutrition. This position demands a commitment to maintaining a high level of personal integrity, characterized by honesty, transparency, and a strong work ethic. The Assistant Coach will also be expected to comply with all NCAA, Peach Belt, and Lander University rules and regulations, ensuring that the athletic department operates within the established guidelines. The work schedule will typically be Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with additional hours required during nights and weekends as necessary to accommodate the needs of the student-athletes and the athletic program.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach in managing the strength conditioning program for all student-athletes.
  • Create a high-performance training environment that is respectful and inclusive for all athletes.
  • Develop and implement training regimens that enhance athletic performance.
  • Maintain open communication with Athletic Training staff regarding student-athlete training status.
  • Provide education and counseling to student-athletes on self-care topics such as sleep hygiene and nutrition.
  • Comply with NCAA, Peach Belt, and Lander University rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrate strong customer service skills and uphold high ethical standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science or a related field.
  • Prior coaching experience in strength and conditioning.
  • National accreditation (NSCA-CSCS or CSCCA-SCCC).
  • First aid/CPR/AED certification (American Red Cross or similar).
  • Valid driver's license and safe driving history.
  • Strong skills in providing excellent customer service and demonstrating strong ethics.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Exercise Science or a related field.
  • Experience as a collegiate athlete.
  • USAW Level 1 certification.
