About the position

The Structural Analysis Engineer will play a crucial role in the development, testing, and certification of liquid propulsion systems for NASA's engine development programs at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL. This position involves working within a multi-discipline team to establish flight rationale for next-generation manned launch vehicles, contributing to the advancement of aerospace engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Engaging with senior engineers to provide insight on liquid engine structural elements and test fixtures.
  • Producing independent analytical assessments.
  • Developing and delivering reports and presentations.
  • Collaborating with vendors and personnel from other NASA centers in the development of integrated flight hardware and associated ground test equipment.

Requirements

  • A BS degree (MS preferred) in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, or a related field is required.
  • Typically, educational requirement is a BS with 0 - 5 years of experience.
  • Familiarity with one or more major commercial finite element codes such as PATRAN, NASTRAN, ABAQUS, or ANSYS.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the application of finite element methods.
  • Experience with empirical closed-form structural analysis techniques.
  • Experience in the assessment of failure mechanisms.
