About the position

Volkert is seeking a talented Structural Bridge Engineer to join our team in the Midwest Region, with negotiable positions available in our Illinois and Missouri offices. In this role, you will be responsible for performing calculations and analyses for designing bridge and transportation structures using various bridge design software programs. You will review calculations and design details developed by others, perform load ratings on bridges of various types, sizes, and complexities, and prepare structural drawings using MicroStation and AutoCAD. Additionally, you will conduct bridge inspections, review shop drawings and other related construction submittals, and organize and maintain project files. Cost estimating for various structural elements will also be part of your responsibilities, as well as developing solutions to challenges presented by clients while adhering to budget, schedule, and project constraints. Effective communication and collaboration with team members will be essential to your success in this position.

Responsibilities

• Perform calculations and analysis for designing bridge and transportation structures using various bridge design software programs.
• Review calculations and design details developed by others.
• Perform load ratings on bridges of various type, size, and complexity.
• Prepare structural drawings in MicroStation and AutoCAD.
• Conduct bridge inspections.
• Review shop drawings and other related construction submittals.
• Organize and maintain project files.
• Cost estimating for various structural elements.
• Develop solutions to challenges presented by the client within budget, schedule, and project constraints.
• Work closely and effectively communicate with team members.

Requirements

• B.S. in Civil Engineering from an accredited engineering program; M.S. in Structural Engineering is a plus.
• 3-7 years of engineering experience in bridge design.
• Course level or recent experience in steel and/or concrete bridge design.
• EIT certification is required.
• Professional Engineering License (PE) in Illinois and/or Missouri or ability to obtain is preferred.
• Structural Engineering License (SE) in Illinois or ability to obtain is preferred.
• Familiarity with bridge analysis software, MicroStation, or AutoCAD is preferred.
• Strong skills using MS Excel and MS Word.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Must have the ability to immediately work in the United States on a full-time permanent basis.
