About the position

In the role of Structural/Civil Section Lead at HDR, you will be entrusted with the operations of the production section, which includes overseeing staff development, ensuring profitability, maintaining morale, enforcing quality control, and providing marketing support. This position requires you to function as a Project Manager, taking responsibility for production on various projects while also managing the section's administrative responsibilities. You will lead and coordinate technical service functions and collaborate with other sections to ensure seamless operations. Your involvement will extend to marketing planning, proposal development, and conducting interviews. You will engage directly with industrial and public clients, addressing marketing, project production, and related issues. It is essential that all work is meticulously planned, organized, controlled, and evaluated through a proactive project management system. You will also be responsible for implementing, monitoring, and supporting company policies, as well as selecting, training, developing, and managing technical personnel. Additionally, you will manage and develop multidisciplinary teams and work cooperatively with National Directors and marketing staff in both local and national marketing and production efforts. Other duties may be assigned as needed. This position is pivotal in ensuring that HDR continues to deliver high-quality engineering and architectural services while fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for operations of production section including staff development, profitability, morale, quality control and marketing support
  • Function as Project Manager and take responsibility for production on projects in addition to management responsibilities
  • Take administrative responsibility for section staff and technical service functions, and lead and coordinate services with other sections
  • Be involved in marketing planning, proposals and interviews
  • Be directly involved with industrial and public clients in marketing, project production and related issues
  • Ensure that all work is planned, organized, controlled and evaluated through proactive project management system
  • Implement, monitor and support company policy
  • Select, train, develop and manage technical personnel
  • Manage and develop multidiscipline teams
  • Work cooperatively with National Directors and marketing staff in local and national marketing and production efforts
  • Perform other duties as needed

Requirements

  • BS degree in Civil, Structural or related engineering field
  • A minimum of 10 years experience
  • PE or SE Required
  • Strong communication and listening skills
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments
  • Good leadership and organizational skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience in the management and development of structural/civil systems is preferred
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm
  • Candidates who reside locally in the NY/NJ area are preferred
