About The Position

The position requires experience in mechanical design with a focus on doors, including hinge and latch mechanisms. The candidate should be able to design complex kinematic solutions in a conceptual design environment and have extensive experience in space vehicle design, guiding engineers in structural design. Responsibilities include guiding structural architecture definition through the identification and proposing of advanced technology, supporting design through trade studies, concept development, and interface development. The role also involves experience in CATIA part design, assembly design, surface-wireframe, and composites workbench, as well as composites primary and secondary structure design, high-temperature material forming, and GD&T experience. Desired specialties include wing design, fuselage design, vertical tail design, air vehicle door design, and stringer/frames/clips design.

Requirements

  • Experience in mechanical design with emphasis on doors
  • Extensive experience in space vehicle design
  • Experience in CATIA part design, assembly design, surface-wireframe, and composites workbench
  • Experience with composites primary and secondary structure design
  • High-temperature material forming experience
  • GD&T experience
  • Ability to create simple working FEMs for conceptual design validation

Responsibilities

  • Design complex kinematic solutions in a conceptual design environment
  • Guide engineers in structural design for space vehicles
  • Support design through trade studies and concept development
  • Identify and propose advanced technology for structural architecture
  • Create and manage Global Finite Element Models (GFEM)
  • Create and execute Detail Finite Element Models (DFEM)
  • Conduct trade studies to evaluate design solutions for weight, cost, and schedule constraints
  • Work in an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment with design, fabrication, and assembly functions
