About the position

The Structural Design Engineer position at Actalent is a critical role that requires a skilled professional with extensive experience in mechanical design, particularly in the area of door mechanisms such as hinges and latches. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing complex kinematic solutions within a conceptual environment, which necessitates a deep understanding of structural architecture and the ability to support design through various studies and developments. This role also involves working with high-temperature materials, which adds an additional layer of complexity to the design process. In this position, the engineer will guide new engineers, sharing knowledge and expertise to foster their development. The role demands proficiency in CATIA V5, as the candidate will be engaged in part design, assembly design, surface-wireframe, and composites workbench. Familiarity with composites primary and secondary structure design, as well as Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), is essential. The ideal candidate may also have specialized knowledge in areas such as wing, fuselage, vertical tail, air vehicle door, and stringer/frames/clips design, which are crucial for the successful execution of projects. This is a contract position with a duration of 18 months, requiring the engineer to work fully on-site in Wichita, Kansas. The work environment is structured, with hours from Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, and the engineer must be present in a cleared facility to perform their duties effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Design complex kinematic solutions in a conceptual environment.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in space vehicle design.

  • Familiarity with composites structure design and high-temperature material forming.
  • Knowledge of GD&T principles.
  • Ability to guide and mentor new engineers.
  • Experience with DoD clearances.
