About the position

As a Structural Engineer at Black & Veatch, you will play a crucial role in the design and analysis of transmission line projects. This position offers the opportunity to support design engineering and analysis on various transmission scopes, where you will collect and assimilate data for engineering work, perform research, and prepare calculations in accordance with Black & Veatch and industry standards. You will be responsible for developing recommendations for equipment and materials while ensuring that all work is completed within budget, project schedule, and quality requirements. In this role, you may also assist in providing guidance to engineering team members and maintaining positive client relations by understanding client interests and drivers through effective communication with the project team. Additionally, you may be involved in business development activities and function as a technical specialist or in a lead role. With minimal supervision, you will apply advanced engineering techniques and analyses to solve complex problems and expand your knowledge and skill set in your area of discipline. As part of the BV Operations team, your skills will be aligned with projects that support various market sectors, including Governments & Environment, Energy & Process Industries, and Connectivity & Commercial. You will engage in exciting projects across the globe, from small community improvements to large-scale Mega Projects, contributing to infrastructure growth and development while focusing on your individual development. Responsibilities

  • Support design engineering and analysis on transmission scopes.
  • Collect and assimilate data for engineering work.
  • Perform research and prepare calculations in accordance with Black & Veatch and industry standards.
  • Develop recommendations for equipment and materials.
  • Understand and work successfully within budget, project schedule, and quality requirements.
  • Assist with providing guidance to engineering team members.
  • Maintain positive client relations through effective communication with the project team.
  • Assist with business development activities.
  • Function as a technical specialist or in a lead role.
  • Apply advanced engineering techniques and analyses for problems and methods.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from a recognized accredited program.
  • Minimum of 5 years related work experience.
  • Professional registration or licensure in designated home office country, or in active pursuit of such registration.
  • Strong PLS CADD experience and proficiency.
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards related to assigned engineering discipline.
  • Proven strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to think quickly at the job site and in front of customer personnel.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with the design of utility-scale electrical transmission systems.
  • Structural design of transmission steel structures and their foundations.
  • Basic structural steel and concrete experience using 3D analysis and design software.
  • Previous client interaction experience with solid relationship-building abilities in pursuit of business opportunities.
