About the position

As a Structural Engineer at Black & Veatch, you will play a pivotal role in leading and performing engineering analysis and design for a variety of structures, particularly within industrial settings. This position offers the opportunity to develop project budgets and schedules while fostering relationships with clients at power generating facilities. You will be part of a dynamic team that supports multiple market sectors, including Governments & Environment, Energy & Process Industries, and Connectivity & Commercial. Your contributions will not only focus on infrastructure growth and development but also on your individual professional development, as you engage in exciting projects across the globe, from small community improvements to grand-scale Mega Projects. In this role, you will execute complex structural analysis, perform calculations, and prepare sketches and drawings for the design of industrial facilities and other complex structures. Collaboration is key, as you will work closely with process and systems engineers on multi-disciplinary design projects, ensuring effective communication and careful planning. You will supervise Structural Engineers and Structural Technicians, both domestically and internationally, overseeing the preparation of structural drawing packages, calculations, and specifications. Your leadership will extend to larger production teams, where you will serve as the responsible charge for projects. Additionally, you will engage in construction phase engineering duties, which include site visits, responding to Requests for Information (RFIs), and reviewing contractor submittals. Administrative tasks will also be part of your responsibilities, such as preparing design fee estimates, monitoring project progress against budget and schedule, managing project changes, and implementing Black & Veatch's Quality Control requirements. You will have the ability to lead a team in executing moderately complex projects with construction values of up to $100 million, providing guidance on design standards, engineering codes, and company policies. Continuous improvement efforts will be supported through your guidance and direction to others, as you implement resource management strategies for your team.

Responsibilities

  • Execute complex structural analysis and perform calculations for industrial facilities.
  • Prepare sketches and drawings for the design of complex structures.
  • Collaborate with process and systems engineers on multi-disciplinary design projects.
  • Supervise Structural Engineers and Structural Technicians in the preparation of structural drawing packages, calculations, and specifications.
  • Lead larger production teams and serve as the responsible charge for projects.
  • Travel to client sites during project development to collaborate with stakeholders, estimated travel up to 10%.
  • Perform construction phase engineering duties including site visits, responding to RFIs, and reviewing contractor submittals.
  • Manage project administrative tasks including design fee estimates, budget monitoring, and project change management.
  • Provide guidance on department design guides, standards, and applicable engineering codes.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts and provide direction to others.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program.
  • Minimum of 8 years related work experience.
  • Professional registration or licensure in designated home office country, or in active pursuit of such registration.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in highly integrated Industrial and/or Manufacturing projects such as food products, animal feed, and consumer products.
  • Proficiency with non-structural software packages such as Bluebeam, ProjectWise, AutoCAD, and Revit.
  • Familiarity with the latest editions of the International Building Code, ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC Steel Construction Manual.
  • Proficiency with structural analysis software such as RISA 3D, STAADPro, or SAP 2000.
