About the position

The Staff Structural Engineer will be part of project teams in Oak Ridge, TN, focusing on creating innovative designs for various infrastructure projects that support local Department of Energy (DOE) complexes. The role involves direct client interaction and encompasses a range of projects including municipal, power, healthcare, and military facilities, ensuring compliance with engineering standards and project requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.
  • Modify and review production drawings for various projects including power plants, process facilities, and airports.
  • Design structural components based on project needs and requirements set by project managers.
  • Apply knowledge of structural engineering concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures.
  • Research and compile project-related data as required by project managers.
  • Update drawings provided by senior engineers to ensure corrections are made using CAD software.
  • Compile information for client presentations, shop drawing reviews, and contract administration.
  • Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients.
  • Complete all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Structural Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program.
  • Master of Science degree in Structural Engineering may substitute for 1 year of experience.
  • 3 years of structural engineering experience, preferably in consulting.
  • Successful completion of the FE or EIT exam is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
  • Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and structural analysis programs (e.g., RISA 3D, AutoCAD, ETABS, SAFE, Revit, Tekla).
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
