About the position

The Structural Engineer position at AECOM in Tampa, FL, is designed for a talented and motivated individual to provide engineering expertise in building and facility design. The role involves participating in all project phases, from identification through design and construction support, while collaborating with a diverse project team. Responsibilities

  • Serve as Structural Engineer on various building and facility project types, including mid-to-large size projects.
  • Work under the supervision of the Department Manager/Project Manager while organizing workload and working independently on project-specific design tasks.
  • Communicate and present technical solutions to clients, explaining project conditions effectively.
  • Perform quality control reviews of work developed by others.
  • Provide technical input to studies and design assessments for the benefit of clients and teams.
  • Coordinate scope, schedule, and budget with project managers and senior team members.
  • Mentor and guide junior staff on specific technical design aspects and professional services.
  • Provide direction for prescriptive and performance-based specifications.
  • Participate in the development of technical proposals, including engineering budget and schedule estimates.
  • Review permitting agency standards and regulations for proper project design and permitting applications.
  • Collaborate with other departments, including civil, building engineering, architecture, and landscape architecture, to provide value in project opportunities.
  • Support site field investigations and construction-related activities.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in Engineering plus 6 years of relevant experience or equivalent education/experience.
  • Registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Florida (current FL PE License).
  • Demonstrated experience in building and facility design projects for structural engineering.
  • Experience preparing calculations and design documents (reports, plans, specifications).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit as working platforms for design delivery.
  • Experience with structural design software such as ETABS, SAFE, SAP, and RISA.
  • Demonstrated experience leading projects, clients, and teams.
  • Valid US Driver's License required.

Nice-to-haves

  • 8 years of experience in structural engineering and building development projects covering all aspects of building and site design.
  • Ability to register for the Principles & Practice (PE) Exam within 1 year of hire.
  • Experience serving as structural engineering design on various building types for vertical and horizontal engineering.
  • Achieved and practicing as PE.
  • Experience with permitting projects with local AHJs and required jurisdictions.
  • Experience in planning and organizing tasks and teams in a deadline-intensive environment.
  • Experience with construction phase services for projects.
