About the position

Shive-Hattery is seeking a Structural Engineer with 5 to 10 years of experience to join their West Des Moines, IA office. This role involves leading the structural design of various projects, including education, civic, healthcare, and commercial buildings, as well as renovations and some industrial projects. The position emphasizes collaboration within a team, mentoring less experienced engineers, and managing project scope, schedule, and budget.

Responsibilities

• Lead the structural design portion of projects.
• Make design recommendations and decisions.
• Oversee the completion and quality of construction drawings, specifications, reports, and other project documentation.
• Collaborate with senior engineers for overall direction and problem-solving.
• Provide direction to less experienced engineers and designers.
• Mentor and teach other team members.
• Establish and manage structural scope, schedule, and budget.
• Visit project sites and provide technical assistance to resolve construction issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program.
• 5-10 years of structural engineering experience in the design, modification, and evaluation of building and non-building structures.
• Professional Engineer licensure in Iowa or the ability for immediate licensure in Iowa.
• Proficiency in Autodesk Revit and Microsoft Office.
• Structural design experience with steel, concrete, and masonry; experience with wood design is a plus.
• Good attention to detail.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage time and workload effectively, including planning, organizing, and prioritizing work.
• Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.
