The Structural Engineer position focuses on construction engineering and requires the individual to perform engineering tasks for entire projects and systems of varying complexity under the guidance of a Senior Engineer. The role involves directing the efforts of other engineers to deliver specific engineering deliverables and reviewing their work to ensure adequacy. The engineer will be responsible for the structural engineering design of temporary structures used in construction and demolition, which may include shoring, reshoring, falsework, formwork, crane foundations, crane tie-back connections, and temporary stability bracing. Additionally, the engineer will perform structural engineering design for construction procedures, including erection plans, demolition plans, jacking sequences, and post-tensioning/un-tensioning sequences. Evaluating existing and proposed permanent structures for temporary loads and conditions is also a key responsibility, which may involve assessing the impact of equipment such as pump trucks and cranes on structures, as well as temporary attachments to permanent works. The role includes design assistance and value engineering reviews of permanent structural systems, such as foundations and framing systems, and conceptual structural engineering design for design-build efforts. The engineer will prepare necessary analysis, calculations, details, plans, and reports to fulfill these responsibilities, with work products typically sealed by the Senior Engineer in Responsible Charge. Quality control reviews of plans and documentation prepared by other engineers and external consultants are also part of the job. Support for preconstruction teams is required by identifying and evaluating risks, vetting means and methods, brainstorming schemes, and exploring new technologies. The engineer will also support operations teams by evaluating work that may be out of specification, such as misplaced foundations and columns, and developing remediation strategies for work performed by Brasfield & Gorie, as well as reviewing proposed remediations by subcontractors.
