About the position

As a Structural Engineer-in-Training (EIT) on our transportation team, you will be part of Stantec's dynamic group of over 500 bridge engineers responsible for expanding our bridge engineering capabilities and working on a wide variety of innovative and diverse projects. This entry-level position is designed for individuals looking to develop their skills in evaluating, designing, specifying, and developing plans for various infrastructure projects, including bridges and transportation-related structures. You will work under the supervision of a Senior Bridge Engineer, gaining hands-on experience and contributing to the successful completion of projects that support our communities and enhance regional connectivity. In this role, you will assist with the design of bridges, walls, culverts, and sign structures, ensuring compliance with California DOT practices and AASHTO LRFD standards. You will conduct engineering investigations, feasibility studies, and cost and risk analyses, while also assessing and identifying bridge load ratings. Utilizing advanced structural analysis and design software, you will help complete bridge construction plans and specifications, prepare structural computations, and assist in material quantity takeoffs and cost estimates. Responsibilities

  • Assist with the design of bridges, walls, culverts, and sign structures incorporating California DOT practices and AASHTO LRFD standards.
  • Conduct engineering investigations, feasibility studies, cost, and risk analysis.
  • Assess and identify bridge load ratings.
  • Utilize advanced structural analysis/design software and 3D models.
  • Complete bridge construction plans and specifications.
  • Prepare structural computations, material quantity takeoffs, and cost estimates.
  • Check the work of others and perform other duties as assigned by senior engineering staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis in structural design; Master's degree preferred.
  • 0-2 years of professional experience in the design of bridges and structures; previous internship experience in bridge design, analysis, or inspection is a plus.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) or Engineering Intern (EI) designation preferred or ability to obtain within six months from date of hire.
  • Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.
  • Some working knowledge of codes, legal and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions; familiarity with California DOT and AASHTO LRFD codes is a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Developing ability to effectively discuss project issues.
  • Excellent organization, project management, and communication skills, both written and verbal.

Nice-to-haves

  • Microstation experience is a plus.
  • Experience with structural design is a plus.
