About the position

Volkert is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to join our team in the Carolinas Region, specifically in Raleigh or Charlotte, NC. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for performing routine aspects of assignments that require a solid understanding and application of basic engineering principles. Your projects will primarily focus on the design and repair of highway bridges and retaining walls, conducting bridge load ratings, reviewing working drawings, and estimating costs. You will utilize various structural engineering software programs to analyze structures and ensure compliance with design specifications. In this role, you will prepare or check structural calculations and details for various materials, predominantly steel and concrete. You will also be responsible for preparing structural drawings using Open Bridge, MicroStation, and AutoCAD. Collaboration is essential, as you will coordinate with other disciplines, such as roadway and drainage, to perform checks of documents for conformance to structural drawings. Responsibilities

  • Perform routine aspects of assignments requiring knowledge and application of basic engineering principles.
  • Design and repair highway bridges and retaining walls, conduct bridge load ratings, and review working drawings and cost estimates.
  • Analyze structures using various structural engineering software programs.
  • Prepare or check structural calculations and details of structural elements for various materials, predominantly steel and concrete.
  • Prepare structural drawings in Open Bridge, MicroStation, and AutoCAD.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines such as roadway and drainage to perform checks of documents for conformance to structural drawings.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5 - 10 years of engineering experience in bridge design.
  • Recent experience in steel and/or concrete bridge design.
  • PE or EI Certification.
  • Familiarity with bridge design and analysis software such as Open Bridge and/or Leap Bridge, CSI Bridge, AASHTO BrR, and other bridge analysis software.
  • Experience with preparing drawings in Open Bridge, Microstation, and/or AutoCAD.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
