In this role, the Junior Structural Engineer In Training will perform detailed structural engineering analysis and design work for projects of varying size, type, and complexity. The incumbent will be expected to have a working knowledge of conventional aspects of design engineering and will be capable of planning and conducting tasks that require code interpretation in the analysis and design evaluation. This includes the selection and substantial adaptation and modification of designs to meet the requirements of the building code and standards referenced therein. The ultimate goal is to produce a finished work product that demonstrates the adequacy of the analysis, design engineering, and project criteria to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public. All work will be conducted under the direct supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer. The position involves assisting senior staff in conducting preliminary studies, performing preliminary analysis and design, and preparing sketches for preliminary engineering reports for structural projects. These projects may include commercial structures, industrial/plant facilities, marine structures, water and wastewater plants, and educational facilities as assigned by the Engineer of Record. The candidate will also be responsible for the preparation and processing of structural documents/studies for review by senior engineers to meet QA/QC guidelines, as well as assisting in the analysis to determine code-based load and load combinations applicable to the project for detailed design.

Responsibilities

  • Assist senior staff in conducting preliminary studies and performing preliminary analysis and design for structural projects.
  • Prepare sketches for preliminary engineering reports for various types of structures including commercial, industrial, marine, and educational facilities.
  • Prepare and process structural documents/studies for review by senior engineers to meet QA/QC guidelines.
  • Assist in determining code-based load and load combinations applicable to the project for detailed design.
  • Conduct structural design work using steel, concrete, and masonry materials for low to mid-rise structures.
  • Prepare engineering calculation packages and engineering sketches, reviewing criteria and drawings.
  • Generate project specifications and technical reports, assisting the team in the preparation of design documents.
  • Coordinate design with drafting team and various design disciplines.
  • Develop drawings and technical specification packages that comply with applicable codes.
  • Follow recommendations from Geotechnical Engineering reports in the design of shallow and deep foundation systems.

Requirements

  • Certified Junior Structural Engineer In Training registered in the state of Texas.
  • Working knowledge of conventional aspects of design engineering.
  • Ability to plan and conduct tasks requiring code interpretation in analysis and design evaluation.
  • Experience in structural design using steel, concrete, and masonry materials for low to mid-rise structures.
  • Familiarity with Geotechnical Engineering reports and foundation system design.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with marine structures and water/wastewater plants.
  • Familiarity with commercial and industrial facility design.
