About the position

Shive-Hattery is seeking a licensed Structural Engineer with 5 to 10 years of experience to join their West Des Moines, IA office. The role focuses on the design and leadership of structural engineering projects, primarily in the industrial sector. The engineer will lead the structural design from schematic design through construction documents, manage project scope, schedule, and budget, and mentor junior team members while collaborating with multi-discipline teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead the structural design portion of projects for industrial, commercial, and educational projects.
• Make design recommendations and decisions, overseeing the completion and quality of construction drawings, specifications, and reports.
• Establish and manage structural scope, schedule, and budget for projects.
• Mentor and teach other team members in structural engineering practices.
• Interact with clients and contractors as a representative of the company on ongoing projects.
• Manage shop drawing reviews and field data collection for multiple projects simultaneously.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program.
• 5 to 10 years of experience in the design and leadership of structural engineering projects.
• Professional Engineer licensure in Iowa or the ability for immediate licensure in Iowa.
• Proficiency with Autodesk Revit and Microsoft Office.
• Structural design experience using concrete, steel, and masonry; wood design experience is a plus.
• Experience and willingness to provide direction to young engineers and designers.
• Ability to manage time and workload effectively, including planning, organizing, and prioritizing work.
• Good attention to detail and strong oral and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience using 3D software (Navisworks/Recap) and other structural engineering design software.
