About the position

Merrick & Company is seeking a college or graduate school Civil/Structural or Mechanical Engineering student for a paid summer internship for Summer 2025 in our Aiken, SC office. Imagine working on rewarding client projects and being exposed to unparalleled training and development opportunities! The summer internship has a commitment of approximately mid-May through mid-August 2025. We will be accepting resumes for this opportunity through February 16, 2025. Resumes will be reviewed as they are received. Interviews will be in January/February 2025. Offer will be extended in March 2025. Timeframe subject to change.

Responsibilities

• Gain technical experience in the field of structural engineering.
• Perform structural analysis using computer finite element analysis.
• Engage in structural steel design and concrete design.
• Analyze existing structures.
• Exposure to ASCE, AISC, and ACI codes and standards.
• Create drawings using AutoCAD.
• Follow engineering quality assurance procedures.
• Collaborate with other disciplines and interface with clients and contractors.
• Follow schedules and budget commitments.
• Work independently and possess good written and oral communication skills.
• Problem solve effectively and meet expectations for attendance and punctuality.

Requirements

• Must be currently enrolled and entering junior year or higher of undergraduate degree or currently enrolled in grad school.
• Must be pursuing an engineering degree in Civil/Structural or Mechanical Engineering from an A.B.E.T. accredited program.
• Client projects for this position require U.S. Citizenship.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience or exposure to AutoCAD.
• Previous internship in Civil/Structural Engineering.
