About the position

The Structural Engineer Intern position at AECOM is designed for students pursuing a Bachelor's Degree or higher in Civil or Structural Engineering. This role supports the Water, Structures Department in Albuquerque, NM, and aims to develop the intern's technical skills and professional judgment through hands-on assignments in engineering tasks related to water infrastructure. The internship is part of AECOM's Graduate Development Program, which facilitates the transition into the organization and supports technical development planning toward licensure.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assignments requiring the application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to carry out engineering tasks.
  • Assist in the design, analysis, rehabilitation, and inspection of water infrastructure and ancillary structures.
  • Utilize computer software to solve basic engineering problems.
  • Exercise judgment in developing work details and making preliminary selections of engineering alternatives.
  • Prepare engineering-related designs, calculations, sketches, visual aids, schematic drawings, and final working drawings under supervision.
  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with agreed-upon budget and schedule under supervision.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a university program pursuing a Bachelor's Degree or higher in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Completed three years of study in the engineering program.

Nice-to-haves

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification.
  • Academic track with a structural engineering concentration.
  • 1-2 cycles of relevant internship experience in structural design projects.
  • Familiarity with spreadsheets, word processing, and standard office software.
  • Basic knowledge of industry-standard computer software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, STAAD, and MathCad.
  • Experience or education in reinforced concrete and steel design.
  • Strong communication skills and team-oriented mindset.
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License.
