About the position

The Structural Engineer Intern position at AECOM is designed for students pursuing a Bachelor's Degree or higher in Civil or Structural Engineering. This role supports the Water, Structures Department in New Orleans and aims to develop the intern's technical skills through practical assignments in engineering tasks related to water infrastructure. The internship is part of AECOM's Graduate Development Program, which facilitates the transition into the organization and supports technical development planning toward licensure.

Responsibilities

• Performing assignments requiring the application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to carry out engineering tasks.
• Conducting design, analysis, rehabilitation, and inspection of water infrastructure and ancillary structures.
• Using computer software to solve basic engineering problems.
• Exercising judgment in developing work details and making preliminary selections of engineering alternatives.
• Preparing engineering-related designs, calculations, sketches, visual aids, schematic drawings, and final working drawings under supervision.
• Performing work in accordance with agreed-upon budget and schedule under supervision.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a university program pursuing a Bachelor's Degree or higher in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Completed two years of study in their program.

Nice-to-haves

• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE).
• Academic track with a structural engineering concentration.
• 1-2 cycles of relevant internship experience in structural design projects.
• Basic knowledge of industry-standard computer software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, STAAD, and MathCad.
• Experience or education in reinforced concrete and steel design.
• Team-oriented with strong communication skills.
