Our Structural Engineering Intern positions, available in our Louisville, Kentucky and Ann Arbor, Michigan locations, provide a unique opportunity for individuals to gain hands-on experience in various construction projects across multiple industry sectors. As an intern, you will work closely with our structural engineering staff on a diverse range of projects, including those for the Department of Defense, commercial buildings, educational institutions, civil works, water and wastewater management, stormwater systems, utilities, forensic investigations, historic renovations, and other municipal projects. This role is designed to enhance your education and career interests in architectural and structural engineering consulting. The internship will allow you to assist in preparing design calculations for structural systems, collaborate on writing forensic and investigation reports, and define structural systems through modeling in Revit and Risa 3D. You will also utilize Revit 3D to produce structural plans and details, while becoming familiar with local and state codes, as well as Federal Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) guidelines. This position is ideal for students currently enrolled in an ABET Accredited 4-year degree program focused on Civil/Structural Engineering or recent graduates from such programs. A Certificate for Engineer-in-Training (NCEES FE Exam) is preferred, and we are looking for candidates who are eager to learn, detail-oriented, and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist structural engineers on a multitude of projects
  • Prepare design calculations of structural systems
  • Collaborate with writing forensic and investigation reports
  • Define structural systems by modeling in Revit and Risa 3D
  • Utilize Revit 3D to produce structural plans and details
  • Become familiar with local and state codes, as well as Federal Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) guidelines
  • Participate in Construction Administration activities by reviewing shop drawings and submittals

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in second, third, or fourth year of Civil Engineering Degree, with Structural focus
  • 0-2 years of relevant experience, preferred
  • Ability to obtain EIT Certification in the near future
  • Valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Software, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Articulate and concise use of written and verbal English language communications
  • Must be a self-starter capable of handling solo projects as well as working well with a team/group
  • Understand Mathcad and other engineering software/structural engineering software tools to produce calculations as part of design and analysis tasks
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Revit Structure, preferred
