About the position

The Structural Engineer ML2 position at Bechtel Corporation involves supporting the design development of structural engineering designs for the ML2 Project, which is focused on creating a launch platform for NASA's Space Launch System at Kennedy Space Center. The role includes modifying calculations, responding to inquiries from steel fabricators, and providing construction support. This is a short-term assignment expected to last 9 months.

Responsibilities

  • Originate structural engineering deliverables, such as steel calculations and specifications.
  • Originate structural analysis models using GTSTRUDL or STAAD.
  • Aid in review and coordination of technical documents with/from other engineering disciplines.
  • Aid in preparing technical reports related to specific design issues.
  • Assist in constructability reviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil/structural engineering (or related) from an accredited university or college and 2-5 years of relevant experience or 6-9 years of relevant work experience.
  • US Citizenship or Permanent Residency/Green Card.
  • Ability to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Familiarity with structural analysis software such as GTSTRUDL, STAAD, or similar.
  • Familiarity with the use of Mathcad or similar software.
  • Excellent listening, oral and written communication, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with CADD applications, such as MicroStation, Tekla, and Navisworks.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.

Nice-to-haves

  • Engineering in Training (EIT) Certificate.
  • Proficient in the use of Mathcad and GTSTRUDL or similar structural analysis software.
  • Thorough knowledge of the provisions of AISC Steel Manual & ASCE 7.
  • Familiarity with Bechtel standard programs.
  • Knowledge of design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPS).
  • Basic knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as drawings, specifications, and material requisitions and of construction methods for concrete and steel structures.
  • Understanding of work processes of other disciplines and departments on projects.
