About the position

Moffatt & Nichol is seeking a Junior Level Structural Engineer specializing in Offshore Wind to join our team dedicated to the planning and design of ports that support the offshore wind (OSW) industry. This position will primarily focus on conducting site selection studies and feasibility analyses for proposed OSW ports, as well as evaluating existing port infrastructure to determine its suitability for OSW applications. The successful candidate will collaborate with our OSW port logistics modeling team to create and analyze port models, ensuring that operational requirements are met through effective port layouts and concept designs. In this role, you will be expected to stay current with industry trends and the US and international work pipeline related to offshore wind. You will coordinate with various design teams, including structural, civil, electrical, and mechanical, to ensure comprehensive project delivery. Periodic site visits and field investigations will be part of your responsibilities, allowing you to gather essential data and insights for project development. Additionally, you will attend client meetings and produce effective presentations and reports tailored to our OSW port clients. Responsibilities

  • Perform site selection studies and feasibility studies for proposed OSW ports
  • Analyze existing port infrastructure and proposed sites to determine suitability for use in OSW industry
  • Work with OSW port logistics modeling team to create and analyze OSW port models
  • Collaborate with OSW ports team to analyze OSW project operational requirements and create supporting port layouts and concept designs
  • Stay current with OSW industry trends, US and international work pipeline
  • Coordinate with structural, civil, electrical and mechanical design teams as required
  • Conduct periodic site visits and field investigations at proposed and existing OSW port locations
  • Attend client meetings as required
  • Produce and present effective presentations and reports for OSW port clients

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering is required
  • Master's degree in engineering with a focus in Civil, Structural, Coastal, Marine or Offshore Wind is preferred
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in a related field
  • Engineer in Training certificate or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire
  • Good working knowledge of the OSW industry is a plus
  • Strong communication skills (verbal, written and presentation)
  • Ability to interact with clients and attend client meetings
  • Possession of or eligibility to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

  • Experience with BOEM (US) leasing process
  • Familiarity with US State OSW power solicitation process
  • Knowledge of European OSW leasing and solicitation process
  • Understanding of South American OSW leasing and solicitation process
  • Experience with OSW wind turbine generation sizing and geometry
  • Knowledge of process flow of WTG components through OSW port
  • Familiarity with OSW vessel characteristics and specifications
  • Understanding of OSW port criteria to support both fixed bottom and floating offshore wind projects
