About the position

Rimkus is seeking a Structural Engineer to join our Ridgeland, MS area office. This hybrid position allows for work from the field, the office, and your home office. The ideal candidate will have experience in both Residential and Commercial structures and will provide forensic consulting services that require Structural Engineering expertise for various clients, including insurance and legal sectors. The role involves assessing and determining the cause and origin of structural failures and construction defects, and providing comprehensive oral and written reports of findings, including expert testimony when necessary. The Structural Engineer will manage multiple projects, ensuring timely delivery of client reports while coordinating with other experts and support staff as needed. The essential job functions include performing investigations and analyses of residential, commercial, and industrial properties to resolve claims and legal matters. The engineer will conduct field investigations to study and determine the cause and origin of construction defects or structural failures. Preparation of detailed reports documenting the causes of failure, extent of loss, associated repair scope, and recommended remediation is crucial. The role also requires adherence to safety procedures during project execution and compliance with land use laws and regulations. The engineer may supervise and evaluate the performance of associate team members and is expected to develop and maintain mutually beneficial client relationships. This position requires gathering photographic evidence, conducting investigations to document on-site conditions, overseeing field testing, and reviewing historical documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform investigations and analyses of residential, commercial, and industrial properties to resolve claims and legal matters.
  • Conduct field investigations to determine the cause and origin of construction defects or structural failures.
  • Prepare oral and written reports documenting causes of failure, extent of loss, associated repair scope, and recommended remediation.
  • Manage multiple projects, coordinating with other experts and support staff to produce timely client reports.
  • Ensure adherence to safety procedures and compliance with land use laws and regulations during project execution.
  • Supervise and evaluate the performance of associate team members as needed.
  • Develop and maintain mutually beneficial client relationships.
  • Gather photographic evidence and conduct investigations to document on-site conditions.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Structural Engineering or higher is required.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is required.
  • 2-10+ years of experience in Structural Engineering is required.
  • Project Management and/or Field Investigation experience is preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with clients at all levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications and computer-assisted engineering and design software.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical reports, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Strong writing skills for scopes-of-work, budget estimates, schedules, reports, proposals, and other technical documents.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with chemical testing applications, drafting and design software, and electrical testing devices.
  • Familiarity with land surveying techniques.
